Volunteering with Community Care

Volunteers have long been an important part of the Community Care team and following the lifting of certain covid protocols we are pleased to once again welcome volunteers (in limited numbers) back to the agency. If you are interested in volunteering kindly complete and submit the volunteer application.

Community Care welcomes volunteers who are able to bring patience, compassion and excellent communication skills to support our clients. The Mission, Vision & Values guide our agency operations and our volunteer program.

Some of our volunteer positions include:

  • Front desk receptionist
  • Warehouse staff
  • Clothing and food cupboard monitors
  • Sorters of both clothing and food
  • Special event/occasion volunteers
  • “Packers” to sort food as it arrives

How do we get started?

  • Please complete a volunteer application
  • Sign a Declaration of Confidentiality
  • New volunteers are required to take part in a short orientation program to be sure this is the right fit for all involved, and an opportunity to learn so much more about the work we do for those in need
  • Please have a letter of reference prepared and available at your volunteer interview

Student Community Service Volunteering

Please be advised that our student community service volunteering program is currently on hold – we do hope to resume this program in SEPTEMBER 2023.

When operational, students volunteer in a number of areas including our warehouse, clothing room and food distribution centre. The hours for this program are Monday to Friday, after school from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

In the interim, we are happy to add student names to our roster of occasional volunteers – these volunteers may be called upon throughout the summer and during school holidays. Occasional Saturdays and weeknight evenings may also become available during special events and food drive campaigns. If you are interested in being an occasional volunteer please call (905) 685 – 1349 ext 225.

Volunteer Hours

Monday to Friday, shifts are 9:00am – 12:30pm & 12:30 – 3:30pm.

Placement Programs

Our cooperative education placement program provides a limited number of opportunities for individuals. We welcome both secondary and post secondary students. The agency and student both benefit from the hands on work and experience gained. If you are seeking placement please contact (905) 685 – 1349 ext 225.

Student Community Service Volunteer Program

Please be advised that our student community service volunteering program is currently on hold - we do hope to resume this program in SEPTEMBER 2024.

We are accepting occasional volunteers in the interim - these volunteers may be called upon throughout summer, during school holidays, or for the occasional Saturday or weeknight evening shift. If you are interested in becoming an occasional volunteer, please call (905) 685 - 1349 ext. 225.

Cooperative Education Placement Program

Our cooperative education placement program provides a limited number of opportunities for individuals. We welcome both secondary and post secondary students. If you are seeking placement please contact (905) 685 - 1349 ext 225.

(We require a commitment of one 3.5 hour shift per week)

i.e. Christmas (Saturdays + 1 Friday evening), Spring Food Drive (volunteering at grocery stores to encourage donations).
