Since retiring it gives me a sense of purpose. l enjoy the time I spend working with employees of Community Care and feel like I’m contributing to a cause that is very worthy and necessary, especially now. -Scott

Always heart warming to hear how appreciative a lot of our clients are towards Community Care and the help it gives them. Also-very eye opening to hear some of their struggles they have endured-and also wonderful to hear some of their happier moments-eg-“I got a job and start this week so I need clothes!“. My time at the Community Care St. Catherines was awesome and filled with great memories. The leadership team welcomed me with lots of love (Special thanks to my direct supervisors - Jenn & Christine). My daily duties in the food warehouse and re-pack sections reminded me of the impact our little daily contributions can make to give back to our community, and the smiles that come from the faces of all those we serve. It is a good feeling being able to give back to the community especially people and families in need. I didn't know what to expect when I first started but now it feels like not only am I helping our clients but it feels good to be able to help out all the wonderful employees of Community Care who work so hard every day that I see them. And it is easy to want to help out Betty Lou whom I admire so much for her incredible commitment to the community. My fellow volunteers are also so friendly and enjoyable to spend a few hours with which is part of the positive experience as well. - Tony

I think that everyone needs access to nutritional food as a basic necessity of life. Having a square meal comes before a job, housing, and social supports ... a person must eat. Volunteering in the food room is my small part to move the needle for a just and kind society: to provide food quickly and as nicely as possible to anyone who needs it. I enjoy helping people from all walks and hope it makes a difference. – Dave

I wanted to volunteer to help people in the community. So, I applied at Community Care because people find it difficult to get basic food due high cost of renting and food.

 When I applied, I was told they needed someone to help the driver on the truck pick up food donations a few days a week from the Martindale warehouse. I thought this would be a good active way of volunteering.

The driver and all the warehouse staff made me feel welcome and were helpful. This made me feel that I was part of the team.

Volunteering for Community Care allows me to maintain a sense of purpose and gratitude to belong there. Making a difference in the community for people in need gives me self satisfaction.
