Ontario Government Grant Expands Food Collection for Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold

On Friday, November 21, local MPP Jennie Stevens met with the team at Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold to hear more about the Capital grant they received from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) which was used to purchase a refrigerated van.
“Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold continues to be a pillar of compassion and support in our community,” said Jennie Stevens, MPP for St. Catharines. “This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will help them expand their reach with a new refrigerated van — ensuring fresh, healthy food gets to the families and individuals who need it most. In a time when food insecurity is growing, this kind of investment is essential to helping our neighbours meet their basic needs and move toward stability.”

The new refrigerated vehicle has been purchased, thanks to the OTF grant funds, at a critical time for the agency, with preparations for the Christmas Program underway and a growing list of clients requesting to register. The new vehicle will allow the agency to collect more perishable items, expanding the selection of offerings for clients.

Community Care of St. Catharines has been supporting the communities of St. Catharines and Thorold since 1919 by providing access to vital services like food and clothing security, housing supports and emergency services.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
