Board Recruitment Posting – Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold

Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold is seeking passionate, community-minded leaders to join our Board of Directors. For more than 100 years, Community Care has provided essential supports including food security, housing stability services, emergency assistance, and programs that strengthen dignity and wellbeing for individuals and families across our community.

As we continue to grow and respond to increasing needs, we are recruiting new Board members who bring strategic insight, professional expertise, and a commitment to advancing equitable access to basic needs.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who share our mission and values. At this time, we are especially seeking individuals with experience in:

• Accounting & Financial Oversight — CPA designation or senior financial management experience; ability to support financial stewardship, risk oversight, and audit processes.
• Human Resources — expertise in HR strategy, policy, labour relations, organizational culture, or workforce planning.
• Philanthropy & Fund Development — experience in fundraising strategy, donor engagement, major gifts, or nonprofit development.
• Affordable Housing — knowledge of housing policy, development, supportive housing, or homelessness prevention.
• Agriculture / Food Supply Chain — experience in food systems, logistics, procurement, or partnerships that strengthen food security.

Board Responsibilities

Board members are responsible for:

• Providing strategic leadership and governance
• Ensuring financial accountability and organizational sustainability
• Supporting the Chief Executive Officer through oversight and guidance
• Championing Community Care’s mission in the community
• Participating on Board committees and attending regular meetings
• Upholding strong ethical standards and community trust
• Contribute to strategic planning and organizational direction
• Support fundraising and community relationship development (as applicable)

Time Commitment

Board members commit to:

• A minimum of eight (8) Board meetings per year
• Board terms are three (3) years with a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms
• Active participation on at least one sub-committee
• Attendance at Community Care events as needed
• Preparation and review of Board materials between meetings
