Saluting Two of our Amazing Volunteers

Volunteering is the cornerstone of Community Care St. Catharines & Thorold programs and services. We are blessed with the support of so many amazing people helping us, help others.  We honestly could not do what we do without their support.

This past spring, after a long hiatus due to COVID, we were able to gather together to recognize the amazing efforts of so many.  We welcomed over 100 volunteers, plus staff and our Board, who attended this wonderful gathering.  We recognized milestones for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of volunteering, each receiving a beautiful flower, our way of saying thank you!

There were two very unique awards given out that evening – the Peggy Wilkinson Award and the Margaret Baker Award.  Both of these awards are named in honour of the individuals, who also served as dedicated volunteers for Community Care St. Catharines & Thorold.

The Peggy Wilkinson Award was presented to Kara Budd, from our Thorold location.  Kara was recognized for her 12 years of dedicated support, working in the clothing and household area. With her personal interests in arts, gardening, weaving and jewelry making these skills often come in handy in the review of donated items, and often she can be heard saying that a donated item is ‘unique’. Thank you Kara for your countless years of dedication and support!

The Margaret Baker Award was presented to Pat McDermott from our St. Catharines location. Pat is an amazing, efficient, tireless worker. Following a career in education administration, she has been with Community Care as a volunteer since 2008.  Again, an avid worker in our clothing room, she is incredibly detail oriented and the staff truly come to rely on her support, especially when we work through season change overs.

We want to take this opportunity to thank both Kara and Pat, but also the many, many other wonderful Volunteers who make the work and life of Community Care St. Catharines & Thorold the success it is today.  Our sincerest thanks!
